I would not use the chrono function on a constant basis unless needed. The subdial on the left serves as your second hand so I would leave the chrono hand at 12 unless you are timing something. I only run mine about once a month or so to 'keep things moving' so to speak. I got a precision from my Grandfather in 1968 it was 10yrs old then, (manual wind) when first winding it, the second hand can move backwards. (I used to love watching the radium paint sparkle in the dark) and it is still going with no problems. My 1946, 1948 and 2009 oyster perpetual don't do this that I've noticed..

Seeing as it has the same movement, the posts here confirm this. I guess the only way to get a ultra smooth movement would be to get a battery powered watch. Many quartz (i.e. battery powered) watches tick once per second, also there are "auto quartz" hybrid movements (Fortis Spacematic comes to mind) that appear to run like a regular auto.
