I'm in the market for a small/medium bore Tenor bone. I'm thinking .508 but possibly .500. The three horns that I've been considering but have not played on all of them are the Yamaha YSL-891z, A Roy Lawler horn or a King 3b (possibly a silver sonic). I've played a 3b before but have not played the other models. I once had both a '61 HN White 3B and an 891Z. The 3B had a complex and interesting sound, but was hard to play. I had to be aware of and work around some quirks sometimes common with vintage horns. When it comes to jazz trombone, Wycliffe plays a Yamaha Custom Z – YSL-891Z, for which he was part of the design team, making this a real musicians choice. I play a 3B (so a size up from you), but I really love my two Kings, silversonic and brass. They have a great sound, easy to play, and (most importantly for me!) they are WAY cheaper than anything new.
